Getting Active for ‘Glad to Care’ Week with a Boxercise Boost

In celebration of Glad to Care Week from the 16th to 20th June, Floryn House embraced the spirit of togetherness and motivation with a fun and energetic start to the week. It began with ‘Motivational Monday’, which brought residents and staff together for a high-energy boxercise class. This was led by our talented bank chef, Liam and our enthusiastic team leader, Bella. Liam also happens to be a trained boxer, so he was thrilled with the opportunity to lead this class.

It was held in our main lounge and welcomed all abilities, encouraging light movement, laughter and teamwork. This was an opportunity to do something different, breaking up the routine in a way that left everyone feeling invigorated and inspired. Liam’s boxing background gave the session a real spark, with routines adapted for residents’ individual needs, and Bella brought her usual cheer which kept spirits high throughout.

Glad to Care Week is all about celebrating the hard work, dedication and heart that goes into caring, not just from the staff but as a whole home, with residents at the heart of it. This activity was designed to highlight the importance of both physical and emotional well-being, reminding everyone at Floryn House that we’re all in this together.

What made the session particularly special was the reaction from our residents. From gentle jabs to giggles and good-natured cheering, it was clear that the session brought a genuine buzz to the day. Residents commented on how enjoyable and refreshing it was, with many asking if it could become a regular fixture on the activities calendar. One resident remarked, “I didn’t think I’d enjoy boxing at my age, but I loved it! It was so much fun.”

The event also gave staff a boost, allowing them to engage with residents in a new way and reflect on why they chose to work at Floryn House. It was a reminder that care is not just about routine and responsibility, it’s about connection, joy and celebrating life together. At Floryn House, we’re proud to take part in Glad to Care Week and even prouder to create moments like these that stay with our residents long after the day is over.
