Shaking Things Up With a Cocktail Making Experience

spread of cocktails and ingredients

Laughter, creativity, and a splash of excitement filled the air as residents came together for a special cocktail-making session at Floryn House. Following the success of our wine-tasting event, residents had expressed an interest in trying something a little different – and what better way to do so than by shaking up their own delicious cocktails?

Residents gathered in the heart of our home and were provided with a selection of fresh ingredients, mixers, and garnishes to craft their colourful creations. Some chose to follow traditional recipes, while others embraced their adventurous side, mixing up new and unique combinations. The experience wasn’t just about taste – the presentation was just as important. Residents carefully decorated their drinks with fruit slices, cocktail umbrellas, and vibrant stirrers, ensuring their creations looked just as impressive as they tasted.

For some residents, this was their first time trying a cocktail which made the event even more special. The activity sparked wonderful conversations, with residents reminiscing about their favourite drinks over the years and sharing stories of celebrations and special occasions. Staff also got involved, chatting about their favourite cocktails and offering tips on the best flavour combinations. The atmosphere was warm and lively, with music playing in the background and plenty of toasts raised in good spirits.

Beyond the enjoyment of the event itself, cocktail-making proved to be a fantastic activity for both the mind and body. Measuring ingredients, pouring, and shaking the mixers helped residents engage in gentle arm exercises and improve their cognitive function, promoting mobility in a fun and interactive way. The creative element of designing and garnishing their drinks also encouraged self-expression and gave residents the freedom to personalise their creations to their unique tastes.

At Floryn House Care Home, we always look for new and exciting ways to engage our residents, and this event was a resounding success. Seeing the smiles, hearing the laughter, and witnessing the pride residents took in their finished drinks made it all worthwhile. We’re already looking forward to planning our next special event – perhaps a mocktail-making session for those who want to try something just as fun, but alcohol-free!
