Sensory Room

Our Sensory Room is a space within our home designed to enlighten the senses of all of our residents and especially those living with conditions such as Dementia, Cerebral Palsy, Sensory Impairment, Visual Impairment or Hearing Impairment. Our room has been designed to include and display multicoloured lights within the dark room, tactile objects and special sounds. Sensory Rooms are there to help develop communication skills, improving focus and providing a calming effect on each resident.

The Benefits of a Sensory Room

A Sensory Room has multiple benefits, especially for those with a ‘sensorial decline’ such as presbyopia, age-related hearing loss, and the loss of the sense of touch, which can hinder sensory stimulation. Additionally, the gradual loss of mobility will affect sensory pathways in which we believe are fundamental to a residents’ wellbeing. There are different elements within a Sensory Room which allow us to stimulate and provide input to the most impaired senses, whilst offering activities which are free from cognitive demands, therefore allowing residents to feel relaxed, entertained and happy.
