Ron’s Story of Continuing His Adventures at Floryn House

When Ron joined us at Floryn House Care Home in Oxford in July 2025, he brought with him a lifetime of remarkable experiences and creativity. Ron is now 81 and has spent most of his life travelling the world, exploring iconic destinations and embracing adventure at every opportunity.

One particularly life-changing moment came during a skydiving experience in the Himalayan mountains, where a parachute malfunction led to a serious accident and several weeks of recovery in the hospital. Following this experience, Ron found himself reflecting deeply on the places he had visited and the memories he had created. He wanted to preserve these moments for years to come, so he turned to art and captured the beauty and emotion of his travels through painting.

When Ron became part of our Floryn House family, it was important to us that his story and passions continued to be recognised and celebrated as part of his daily life.

Celebrating Ron’s Creativity Through a Special Exhibition

Our team instantly understood how meaningful Ron’s artwork was to him, so we worked closely with him to create an opportunity that would truly honour his journey. In February 2026, we were delighted to organise Ron’s very own art exhibition within the home, welcoming residents, families, staff and members of the local Oxford community to share in this special occasion.

The exhibition showcased a stunning collection of Ron’s paintings, each inspired by the places that had shaped his life. From the beauty of the Taj Mahal to the peaceful landscapes of Lake Garda and scenes closer to home in the North of England, every piece told a story of adventure and passion.

The event itself was filled with warmth and admiration, as guests explored Ron’s work and learned more about the experiences behind each painting. It was a proud and emotional moment, not only for Ron but for everyone who attended.

Ron shared his thoughts on the day:

“This day was more special than I ever expected or dreamed of. I want to thank everyone who took their time to attend my very own Art Exhibition”.

Charlotte Whitford, our Activities Manager, also reflected on the impact of the event:
