Fluffy Visitors Bring Smiles and Cuddles to Floryn House!

On 10th April, a very special delivery arrived at our home — a small clutch of duckling eggs. Tucked safely in a cosy incubator in the heart of the home, the eggs became a source of fascination for residents, families and staff alike. Over the next two days, small cracks began to appear, and soon enough, four beautiful ducklings made their way into the world.

From the moment they hatched, our residents were completely smitten. Watching their tiny beaks emerge, hearing their first peeps, and later, cuddling them gently brought out smiles, laughter and endless conversation. The ducklings even enjoyed their own little paddling pool, giving residents the chance to watch them splash and play, which was a simple joy that made a big impact.

At Floryn House, we go above and beyond to ensure our residents can lead rich and fulfilling lifestyles 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Animal therapy is known to boost mood, lower blood pressure, and encourage social interaction. It helps create a sense of purpose and routine and is something we regularly incorporate into our activities programme. Placing the incubator in a central, accessible part of the home meant that everyone could enjoy the experience — whether they stopped by briefly or stayed for longer cuddles.

Residents spoke of how the ducklings gave them something to look forward to each day. For some, it meant getting up a little earlier just to check on their progress. For others, it sparked memories of raising animals in their younger years. There was a real sense of connection, not just to the animals but to each other.

The ducklings also provided an opportunity for our team to share tender moments with residents, chat more, laugh more, and simply enjoy being together. It also brought us all closer as we supported residents through the hatching process and shared in the excitement.

We’re so grateful to have welcomed the ducklings into our home and can't wait to see how they grow over the upcoming days and weeks. If you’d like to learn more about the engaging activities we offer and see our warm and homely atmosphere here at Floryn House for yourself, we’d love to welcome you for a visit.
